Plenary and Session Keynote Speakers
The main plenary speaker for the IUFRO Tree Biotechnology Meeting 2027 will be Edward S. Buckler.
The meeting will feature session keynote and early career keynote speakers invited from the IUFRO Tree Biotechnology community who will provide insight into the rapidly developing fields of tree biotechnology and genomics.

Sessions and Speakers

Edward Buckler
Research Geneticist USDA-ARS, Adjunct Professor of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Cornell University
Edward S. Buckler is a USDA-ARS Distinguished Research Geneticist based at Cornell University. He is a leader in integrating quantitative and statistical genetics with genomic, computational, and field approaches to dissect complex traits and accelerate breeding in several crops. His group developed several foundational tools of modern genetics, including the mixed-model statistics now widely used in genome-wide association studies, the nested association mapping (NAM) population, and genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS).
The Buckler group now focuses on combining plant genetics and artificial intelligence with partners across the agricultural system to re-engineer the global nitrogen system, improving efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and adapting crops to both cold and warm temperature extremes. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, holds numerous leadership roles in the crop genetics community, and received the inaugural NAS Prize in Food and Agriculture Sciences and the McClintock Prize.
